Kakheti-Sighnaghi-Bodbe Monastery

Georgians are famous for their feasts, cuisine, wine culture, warm hospitality and breathtaking environment. Thankfully, historical province of Kakheti is the best place to go in Georgia to discover all of these things.
The eastern region of Kakheti is Georgia’s premier wine-producing area. Almost everywhere you go, you’ll be invited to drink a glass of wine and taste the incredibly delicious Georgian dishes.
Kakheti is a true wine region. It’s rich in history: here you’ll find the incredible monastery complex of Davit Gareja, the picturesque hilltop town of Sighnaghi, and many beautiful churches, castles and mansions around the main town, Telavi.
Sighnaghi – the city of love and wine. Sighnaghi is just over an hour away from Tbilisi, which makes it a good escape from the busy life of the city. Walking through Sighnaghi, you might feel like in Italy – the architecture is pretty similar to small Italian towns. Romantic cobbled streets, carved balconies, 24/7 marriage registration.
Any trip to Signaghi should include a trip to Bodbe – St. Nino Monastery, which is just 2 km away from the city. The territory of the monastery is decorated with flower beds and bushes, vineyards and a healing spring.
The monastery’s history is closely linked to the adoption of Christianity. Over the centuries, Bodbe has survived several partial demolitions from outside invaders. During the Soviet Union, the monastery was refurbished and used for several decades as a hospital. The turn of the 20th century of the century brought extensive restoration and a renewed interest in the historic marvel of Orthodox faith. Today the monastery complex is active, nuns live here. Bodbe receives visitors all year-round.
